Teacher of Mandarin - MPS

This is an opportunity to work in two outstanding schools and participate in the prestigious Mandarin Expansion Programme under the auspices of University College, London.

Queen Mary’s Grammar School, which will initially be the main place of work and the employer, and Queen Mary’s High School are – together - an invigorating and rewarding place to work: the pupils are intelligent and committed to study; the staff are friendly and forward looking. It is far more than just a place of work – it is a thriving community, proud of its past and confident of its future.

We seek an enthusiastic and well-qualified teacher of Mandarin to join our passionate and hard-working modern foreign languages department.

The department has ten years of experience of teaching Mandarin. We are in a position to welcome established teachers looking for a new challenge, or newly qualified teachers who might require more support, while bringing bring fresh ideas on pedagogy and approach.

The current vacancy has arisen due to increased numbers studying Mandarin at the Grammar School and the fact that Queen Mary’s High School is joining the MEP in September 2017.

Queen Mary’s Grammar School is a jewel in the crown of the Mercian region and enjoys a national reputation for academic achievement, topping the Walsall league tables not only for raw GCSE results but also for the new Progress 8 measure. The school adds great value to students’ attainment after their selective entry; Mandarin exemplifies this, with 100% of students attaining A or A* at GCSE for the past 5 years. Passionate teachers and enthusiastic pupils are the secrets behind this success, and the chosen candidate will be supported in harnessing their love of the subject into great, effective teaching.

Now is an exciting time in the history of Queen Mary’s Grammar School. We are establishing the Mercian Multi Academy Trust alongside four other schools which represent a diverse range of educational establishments: Aldridge School, Queen Mary’s High School, Shire Oak Academy and Walsall Studio School; this partnership will bring advantages to our pupils present and future. Please see the accompanying booklet in the full application pack for further information about the Mercian Multi Academy Trust.

Queen Mary’s Grammar School is committed to equal opportunities and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All postholders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

Informal visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. To arrange a visit, obtain more information or request a full application pack, please contact Paul Hunt at Hays Education:
