Queen Mary's Grammar School
Queen Mary’s Grammar School is an invigorating and rewarding place to work: the pupils are intelligent and committed to study; the staff are friendly and forward looking. It is far more than just a place of work – it is a thriving community, proud of its past and confident of its future. In November 2008, it was recognised as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, our most recent inspection.
We seek an enthusiastic and well-qualified teacher of English to join our happy and hard-working English Department. The department boasts an experienced staff and would welcome an NQT or more experienced teacher who can bring fresh ideas and add to the academic specialisms of the staff. The successful candidate will be required to teach KS3 and KS4, with A Level teaching a possibility for the right candidate.
Queen Mary’s Grammar School is a jewel in the heart of the Mercian region and enjoys a national reputation for academic achievement, topping the Walsall league tables not only for raw GCSE results but also for the new Progress 8 measure. The school adds great value to students’ attainment after their selective entry; the English department exemplifies this, with 100% of pupils making 3 or more levels of progress in 2016. The English results are impressive by national standards at both GCSE and A Level. Passionate teachers and enthusiastic pupils are the secrets behind this success, and the chosen candidate will be supported in harnessing their love of English into great, effective teaching.
Now is an exciting time in the history of Queen Mary’s Grammar School. The current vacancy has arisen because the school is expanding from four to five form entry. We are also establishing the Mercian Multi Academy Trust alongside four other schools which represent a diverse range of educational establishments: Aldridge School, Queen Mary’s High School, Shire Oak Academy and Walsall Studio School; this partnership will bring advantages to our pupils present and future. Please see the accompanying booklet in the full application pack for further information about the Mercian Multi Academy Trust.
Queen Mary’s Grammar School is committed to equal opportunities and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All postholders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
Informal visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. To arrange a visit, obtain more information or request a full application pack, please contact Paul Hunt at Hays Education:
